Refrigerated truck body: what it is and what to check
The refrigerated truck body — known in the market as a fridge body, refrigerated box or insulated body — is the insulated superstructure mounted on the truck chassis. Combined with the refrigeration unit, it forms the basis of every professional refrigerated vehicle.
It is built from FRP polyester panels with a graphite polystyrene or polyurethane core. Insulation thickness, facing type, and build quality determine the K-value. ATP certification ensures the insulation meets European standards for perishable food transport.
New body or replacement on a used truck?
Many operators buy a used refrigerated truck — and discover the body has deteriorated, lost its thermal performance or no longer meets ATP requirements. It is often more cost-effective to replace only the body on a good chassis.

What is ATP certification?
ATP (Agreement on the International Carriage of Perishable Foodstuffs) tests the thermal conductance coefficient (K-value) of a refrigerated body. Certificates are issued by approved bodies — in Greece by NTUA. They are valid for 6 years and renewable.
Frequently asked questions about refrigerated truck bodies
Can the body be replaced on a used truck?
Yes. We build a complete new body on an existing chassis, with ATP certification from NTUA available on request. This is often more cost-effective than buying a new vehicle.
How much does a new refrigerated truck body cost?
Cost depends on dimensions, insulation type, floor specification and custom configurations. Contact us for a free assessment.
Do you build for specific uses — meat, fish, pharmaceuticals?
Yes. We specialise in meat bodies with overhead rails, fish bodies with drainage floors, pharmaceutical bodies at 2–8°C, and ice cream bodies. For vans under 3.5t, see our van insulation page.
Do you build for electric vehicles?
Yes. For electric vehicles under 3.5t we recommend Cold Car eutectic systems — charged overnight, zero battery drain during delivery rounds.
